The essentials

The offer described covers one packed sports equipment set per passenger up to 20 kg above the standard allowance. The 40 kg example combines cabin baggage, checked baggage and equipment.

Archive announcement: originally published in Russian on 3 December 2024 for the coming winter 2025 season. Confirm current conditions with the airline before travelling.

Dear passengers,

Avia Traffic Company supports sport and an active lifestyle. The airline’s offer allows sports equipment to be carried free of charge in addition to the standard baggage allowance.

Conditions for free carriage

One set of sports equipment is carried free of charge above the standard allowance, provided it weighs no more than 20 kg.

For example, if a fare includes 15 kg of checked baggage, the allowance described in the announcement is:

  • 5 kg of cabin baggage;
  • 15 kg of checked baggage;
  • an additional 20 kg of sports equipment, free of charge.

That is 40 kg in total. It does not mean that the sports equipment alone may weigh 40 kg.

What equipment is accepted?

One properly packed set per passenger:

  • Skis or a snowboard.
  • A bicycle, including a mountain bike.
  • Mountaineering equipment.
  • Kayaking equipment.

Packing and preparation

Bicycles

Bicycles, including mountain bikes, are accepted subject to these conditions:

  • The handlebars and pedals must be removed.
  • The bicycle must be packed in a cardboard box or a soft case.

Mountaineering equipment

The set must not contain items or substances prohibited from air transport, including:

  • Compressed or liquefied gases.
  • Flammable liquids.
  • Flammable solids.
  • Oxidising substances and organic peroxides.
  • Toxic substances.

When do extra charges apply?

Excess baggage charges apply if:

  • The sports equipment weighs more than 20 kg.
  • The main baggage exceeds the fare’s free allowance.
  • A second set of sports equipment is carried.

Oversized items require advance agreement

Oversized sports and outdoor equipment is accepted only with prior approval from the airline’s representative at the departure point.
